The very first step in handling a difficult situation is understanding people. You must have a foundation of trust, the person must know you are a professional, man or woman of integrity. As one who has learned from the other end, you need to remove all emotions and pre conceived notions of the persons in the conflict and handle the situation as an isolated incident. What has worked for me well over a couple of decades that I have been at the course : - start off on a pleasant note before tee off. - let the other 3 in the group know what 'nuisance' you carry while playing the course. ( we all do ) - request them politely to bear with you on certain aspects of your game ( for eg : not to stand in line of your putts / chips ). - seek out and ask the group what bothers them while playing. showing empathy goes a long way in avoiding conflicts. - lastly, this approach helps in life as well as golf.
