My experience in water quality modeling is limited to water age analysis in water distribution systems using EPANET. EPANET is a standard tool for water age and water source analysis. It can also predict the average constituent concentration, e.g., a disinfectant, based on the water age and average water quality (bulk reaction rate) and environment parameters (pipe wall reaction rate). EPANET extension, EPANET-MSX, also allows for multi-species analysis. However, advanced WQ modeling considers additional parameters like temperature, local conditions, and/or complex CFD hydraulics, providing a more dynamic analysis. Thus, when describing your experience with water distribution water quality modeling, one needs to state the type of analysis.
