What are the best virtual reality tools for collaborative e-learning experiences?

I've experimented with almost every social VR platform available. Here's some things to look out for and my very biased recommendations. Commitment to the headset. An alternative 2D experience is important... but if you're doing VR training with multiple users you really need a platform optimized for VR. webXR is great for accessibility but these platforms really struggle as you fill rooms, and generally don't have great security and compliance. There's 2 clear platforms leading in quality & performance: Engage & Arthur. Engage let's you do some pretty unique setups with 3D objects and animations. Arthur is more stable, easier to learn with modern UI, and has a deeper focus on supporting true enterprise activations for global teams.

I want to highlight here about the Eye-tracking technique that we have used for measuring situational awareness level of the construction workers to understand the cognitive behavioral aspects. We have used ray-casting methods in unity. The results were exactly aligned with the real behavior that we usually study in theories.

I haven't found too many that adequately provide true user collaboration while maintaining flexibility to dictate what that collaboration looks like. We've been using Normcore networking solution because it was made for VR and works fairly well out of the box in Unity. It allows for quite a bit of flexibility in terms of networked collaborative interaction.

I am just here to say Altspace VR is not with us anymore, neither Mozilla Hubs =) I've recently joined a beautiful, collaborative workshop on Remio, organized by Andy Fidel and facilitated by Thomas Zorbach and his team about what the virtual reality events' do's and don't's are... It was so fun, so fruitful and engaging with all the XR/VR industry professionals in the room. I'd highly recommend anyone who'd like to organize collaborative e-learning VR experiences to prioritize: 1. Encouraging the real-time communication,engagement by the chatters and using the environmental interactions with playable objects etc. 2. Onboarding and post-event materials.

This is one area that really seems to be lacking in my opinion. Rec Room has most of these things, but that's a game rather than a productivity tool. We had to create our own whiteboard and saving system as well as submission system to our LMS. I would honestly love it if someone had an all-in-one, out-of-box VR productivity suite which allowed for changes and adaptability to developer and organizational needs.

There's two primary learning types in VR: 1. Individual Learning Scenarios - soft skills for role playing difficult conversations - hard skills training for dealing with machinery - product design workflows - step by step processes 2. Group Learning Workshops - Onboarding new hires - Change management - Client education - Collaborative learning Each require a different type of platform and rollout strategy. Often times you might run the two in parallel. Either way, ease of use should be a top priority. Most learning scenarios are still for first time VR users. Don't underestimate how difficult it can be to pickup basic skills like moving around and interacting with 3D objects. Find products with tool tips and quality support staff.

I agree this is one area that seems a bit lacking but there are some efforts to address it: Omniverse is promising that at the enterprise level, EON has a lot of this functionality available for both enterprise and casual/small user.

It can be tempting to pull down 3rd-party apps off the shelf and try to force them to fit the learning objectives of the course or skill being taught. In my experience, this rarely works very well because the pre-built app usually had one audience or learning objective in mind and you have another. Sometimes 3rd-party apps ARE made for your audience and learning objectives, but that seems to be rare and needs to be verified if that is the case. Customization to the audience and learning objectives is crucial to impactful outcomes.

Whether changing the look of ancient Rome or tweaking task difficulty, customization brings engagement and understanding for learners of all levels. With these tools, educators can create immersive experiences that make learning fun and effective, catering to diverse learning styles.??

This has been the hardest part for my team to figure out. VR creators surely suffer from expert blindness in the sense that everything seems intuitive and clear because they created it! That is why testing your app early and often with a diverse sample from your target audience is so crucial. If you do this early and often enough and with various experimental tutorials, user guides, and other forms of support, you will arrive at what the best support resources are for that group. In my experience with adult learners, "ghost" prompts (translucent 3d hands doing what you should do next), videos showing what to do, or a combination of audio and short text prompts tend to help a lot. Long sections of small text should be avoided if possible.
