La luz puntual en los comienzos del rendering era la respuesta a la falta de cálculos de rebotes o iluminación global. Hoy en día no es muy recomendada salvo para generar efectos muy puntuales, sobretodo de artefactos de iluminación (focos, lámparas, velas, etc.).

Este tipo de iluminación de área, es a mi consideración la que mas flexibilidad ofrece cuando la demanda es renderizar productos u objetos. Por su facilidad de uso y versatilidad de configuracion resultan simples para recrear un estudio de iluminacion fotografico pero de manera virtual, obviamente.

En lo que respecta archviz, la luz volumétrica para generar niebla o fog, ha sido usada en contadas veces por la situación y contexto de algun proyecto particular. Pero para situaciones de interiores suele ser poco frecuente de ver o pedirse. Creo que si no necesitamos recrear ambiente específicos como recitales, locales bailables o algo por el estilo, no debemos tomarla como una opción, ya que suele afectar mucho el tiempo de rendizado. En su reemplazo hay técnicas sencillas de posproducción que dan buenos y rápidos resultados.
