Taking note of the wireless access points and ssids in your area over time can be extremely interesting over time. You'll be able to see when new ssids or access points are stood up and verify if that was your organization or a potential attacker targeting you.

Some devices like wifi pineapples will clone the nearest access point and rebroadcast the same said. When devices connect to the good access points the pineapple will send death messages to the device and eventually the device will connect to the pineapple allowing an attacker to intercept network traffic. As it relates to cracking, if the user authenticates over the pineapple there may be no need to crack the password as the user just gives it to you.

The enumeration process allows the forensics investigator the opportunity to understand what the device is: android or mac? Is it an older model? What vulnerabilities are known for this device/OS/installed software? Getting this and other basic information of the device will be a springboard for the quick wins or for establishing other attack vectors. Never look at a device as something that has security in mind, but rather what you are able to put together from what it is telling you. The idea behind forensics is to piece together things, and getting those pieces are greatly helped by performing the enumeration processes.

Knowing what to look for is as important as knowing what tool to use. The vast array of information that is stored on a mobile device can be overwhelming. The tools are good at pulling data, but doing something with what is returned is important as well. This information can then be used to address what the person using the mobile device may have encountered and can then be used to understand what else may be of value on the phone. This back and forth of gathering information and then using it to inform next actions is a good foundation for expanding on how you search devices.
