What are the best strategies for transitioning from coaching as a side hustle to a full-time career?

What I've found is that Coaching becomes central when one is all-in. How to be all-in? It can't be forced. It's a "leaning into" what feels right. Trusting it... and listening to what brings you fulfillment—and what you discover to be your gifts, as a Coach. When the satisfaction is realized. When you're in the flow... then one coaching client leads to another—and then another. And, before you know it... it's suddenly no longer a side hustle.

In my experience working with coaches directly it is important to ensure you are open and honest with your readiness to run a coaching practice. Completing a course on coaching or a certification may give you a foundational skillset, but how will you find and attract clients? What will be your brand as a coach that will allow your business to thrive? How will you message your services to win contracts over other coaches? All too often, coaches do not sit down and get curious about these step and make the jump without the necessary skills to build a business. Take the time to prepare for not only coaching clients, but networking, building a brand, communicating your offers. Make sure you are fully prepared before taking the leap.

I think that something that is often overlooked is the business side of having a coaching business. I see a lot of coaches who love to coach, but can't stand the entrepreneurial side. Building a business with a strong foundation takes a lot of patience and resources. This is something that the coaching schools don't always prepare coaches for and unless the coach works for someone else, it can kill the business quickly.

Before making coaching your full-time job, ensure that you have enough paid clients to begin with and that you would have a bigger pool of clients who are regulars. If you could get longer contracts for coaching eg. C-suite/senior management of businesses, that is a signal to go full-time.

In order to build coaching as a full time career, its important that 1. You define your coaching niche and space. 2. Define who would be your target audience 3. Define your value proposition and expected outcomes your client can expect 4. Create low/medium and high ticket coaching products based on needs of the client 5. Get your pricing right. 6. Build your social media brand and image. 7. Get your 'reach'message right 8. Have a strong responsive backend for handling queries. 8. Have your marketing collateral ready for disbursement 9. Define work timings and medium(online/off line/one to one/group) 10. Have video testimonials of success stories and referrals.

Most of my early clients as a coach and as a consultant were largely through my contacts and networks. People do business with whom they know and trust. Especially when it comes to things like coaching which can get quite personal. So, in the early days of your business, you can leverage your networks to get your first set of clients and use them to build your reputation and goodwill.

The number one thing every coach needs is leads and a community of support. Make sure you know how to bring in leads on repeat. If you don't have new leads every week/month (depending on your business size) find someone who can show you how.

The more you can automate the better. One big one that you want to do is have an email sales sequence attached to your free lead magnet so people are seeing your offer consistently, along with receiving value.

Being a solo-preneur means wearing all the hats. For every task that feels like a drain, or you notice is taking you longer than you think it should...find a tool that will do some of the heavy lifting. 1. Find tools that intergrate well with each other 2. Use tools like scheduling apps that make booking time on your calendar effortless 3. Always start with free tools. you can easily spend hundreds if not 1000s of dollars on paid software that is helpful but maybe not neccesary early on in your career. Everything is a learning curve. Test out and research as many tools as you need until you find the right fit for your business.

The one thing that accelerated my growth was being surrounded by people who were ahead of me so that I was always uplevelling. Investment is a vital part of business and there is no better investment than investing in you.

Being a coach also means that you should be open to receiving coaching. If you are offering coaching services, but you don't take advantage of the other professionals who can support your journey, what message are you sending your clients? A successful coach looks for coaching support from those who have paved the way for them. That may mean hiring a business coach, a life coach, a parenting coach or a health coach. What do you need in your life to achieve the balance that will help you succeed? Hire someone to help you get there.

Fall back on your values. What do they look like in action, do they align with this shift, does where you are at align with them before the shift? Also, for me I felt I had to walk the talk in terms of self-belief if I was working with clients in that area, I needed to demonstrate this in my actions. Finally the fear of regret was my biggest driver. The fear of not taking 'action'.

Connect with other coaches! You might feel that another coach in your niche is your competitor, but I have found that the large majority of coaches are natural helpers. Coaching can be isolating at times, and finding community and mentorship from other coaches that are doing the work you are doing only leaves you better off. Steel sharpens steel ??

Whenever possible, ask past/future focused questions that expand possibilities with genuine respectful curiosity about their hopes and strengths. By engaging in informal coaching interactions it becomes easier to ingrain your coaching instincts, sharpen perceptual skills and expand your toolkit - capabilities that allow you to elevate formal client engagements and experience success.

Every testimonial, positive review and piece of feedback matters. Don't shy away from letting your community on Linkedin and other platforms know what you are up to. It can feel awkward talking about yourself at first, but I believe more people want to see you win than fail. You will find support and potentially more clients when you shout from the mountain top what you have been working on.
