It is important to have target and time line specified for the promotional period. The responsibility and having a say to alter the promotional price, stop/reroute supplies must always be part of promotional period. This shall allow environment of ownership. I believe in taking the invisible handcuffs off my team mates. Letting there opinions help shape the department goals and strategy. This helps make them more engaged in the process. Change can be scary for people when a new supervisor takes over the team. One of my go to statements is change can be scary but it also can be exciting it is all a matter of perspective.

I have found this to be the most valuable piece of information when dealing with this kind of situation. Delegating and empowering creates a sense of pride and belonging amongst your team and helps cultivate innovation and growth. I have also come to realize that it mitigates the high stressors that you may encounter as a manager from trickling down to your team because you have the time and effort to deal with it.

Delegating the tasks to the team effectively is a major characteristic of a good leader. This will not only free up your time to think and implement new ideas but also provides an opportunity for the team to grow within their role and to take the ownership. Unfortunately, some insecure managers tend to keep everything to themselves, afraid that the others will replace them which is the worst way of leading a team. If you cannot help your team to grow, then you yourself will not grow either.

This is the most important skill that the new manager lacks. Delegation is a win win task for both the parties. When you delegate not only you develop the skills set of your team members but it also ensures once there will be any opportunity to step up ,you have made your team members capable enough to take your place.

Management of inventory is like monitoring your bank account. Depending on the industry your in inventory management can be very different from sector to sector. For example in the produce industry your inventory management software may say you have 5000cs of broccoli on hand, which may be true; but if you have 1000cs that are 10 days old you really don’t have 5000cs because the product is perishable and will not be of good enough quality to sell. Some industries can keep a tighter grip on inventory obviously. But with perishable product you need to be on top of things, always learning, and thinking about how to make your system more efficient. If you grow a good inventory management team you can save a lot of money in shrink.

This is so true and important. Being great in a technical, non managerial role doesn’t automatically make one a great Manager. Managers need training to be Managers, and to develop and excel in the role.
