I have found that you can also leverage data versioning features built into cloud services. For example AWS S3 and Azure Blob storage provide automatic version control for objects stored in their systems.

As a Data Leader managing data versioning during cloud migration, It is critical to maintain data integrity, consistency, and traceability throughout the process, having a robust versioning strategy while tracking changes and maintaining a complete history of data versions, nurturing rollbacks and backups, and restore mechanisms are implemented to mitigate potential data loss or corruption, and validation and testing ensure data integrity and quality. Document all changes to data versions, including associated metadata, to provide clarity and traceability. Monitoring and auditing data changes allow for addressing anomalies or unexpected behaviors, effective communication, and stakeholder collaboration.
