Referrals are hot leads! The reputation of your business/offering (as long as its excellent ) and people talking about you in a positive way create a snowball effect. We have email footers that ask that question, even if it is seen subliminally it works. I know lot of BD people who fail to ask.....what's the worst that can happen...they say no...nothing lost by asking that question! As far as incentives go I feel that this would produce poorer quality leads from referrals as they want the "prize" , better to just say a heartfelt thank you and mean it.
