Nice article. Rather than thinking in terms of what camera settings are best when using a tripod, I think in terms of when is using a tripod needed for the settings I want to use on my camera. When I do product photography I want very sharp images, usually with greater depth of field. I also want repeatable images; this allows me to work with the light without changing the subject orientation, perspective, or framing, which in turn can result in seeing how the light and shadows are working with the subject. The right tripod for what I'm shooting is essential, but it serves the camera, which in turn serves the project.
