To define your research goals, ask yourself the following questions: what is the primary problem or challenge you're attempting to address? What specific questions do you want to answer? What are the expected benefits or impacts of your research? What criteria or indicators will demonstrate that you have accomplished your goals? And how will you communicate and share your findings and recommendations?

For research goals one should have a training in the area of research and have a passion for working in that area. Then, a detailed study to find gaps in the knowledge. Having done this, one can move to define research goals. Have a clear idea about 'the expected outcome', who will use it, is there anybody ready to sponsor the research and in what form the research will be delivered. This is a suggested roadmap to move for 'research goals'.

The final and most critical step of your research process is to apply your results in a way that allows you to solve problems, make decisions, and create value. This will help you demonstrate the impact and relevance of your research, as well as achieve your performance goals. To apply your research results, you must communicate, implement, and monitor. Communication is the ability to share and disseminate your research findings and recommendations in an understandable, brief, and convincing manner. Implementation is the ability to put your research findings and recommendations into practice with effective project management, change management, and stakeholder engagement skills. Monitoring is the ability to measure and evaluate the outcomes and impacts of your research application through relevant indicators, feedback, and lessons learned.
