This is no different from regular cover letter advice. Given that the majority of recruiters are now using AI instead of really reading anything an applicant writes. I would not worry too much about researching the company, unless you have a genuine passion for that particular company. Check the ad carefully and use key words instead.

It's also a good idea to mention any remote working and collaborative tools you have used e.g. Slack, Teams, Zoom, Trello, Confluence etc. Many job advertisements will specifically mention these so be sure to include them where applicable. Consider if you have developed any new systems or processes that have improved remote working communication, productivity or effectiveness. Communicating these in your cover letter helps demonstrate competencies such as initiative, innovation and a continuous improvement mindset.

This is important but do not just mention apps if you do not have a clue how they actually work. I think that it is a lot more impactful to specify what makes you prefer one over another or highlight how you integrated different apps to make them work better for your specific needs.

I am not at all convinced that recruiters are that interested in personally or enthusiasm. Perhaps this suggestion is more suited to entry level applicants. If a candidate lacks experience though, I would advise listing volunteering experience that showcases skills relevant to the position. I would not add quotes. It’s a minefield. The candidate risks sounding a lot more daft or stereotypical than average.

Limit though to one sentence. Nobody will read a lengthy explanation. Alternatively, prepare a written explanation for your personal use during the interview stage.

As a Career Transition Coach, I tell my clients to always check the LinkedIn company page. If it is a decent sized company with a social media team, there is a lot of new and relevant information about the company here. For example, since March was women's history month, many employers shared how they were celebrating and honoring in March. This is a great section to pull from for your cover letter to show value alignment in addition to check before going in for an interview. Impress the organization with the fact that you have done the research and are excited about their upcoming initiatives!

I recommend including a testimonial from a previous supervisor and or client depending upon the role. Having a third party quote that speaks to your work performance makes you stand out!
