What are the best practices for using differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners?

All differentiated instruction is possible only after knowing the similarities and differences among students: their skills, interests, abilities and their prior knowledge. When we did our differentiated instruction project in a school for a year, we used a baseline to check their readiness levels. Then we spoke to their parents. Did one-on-one with students. Had assessments every week. In a month's time, we knew where each child was on the learning track. We had a pattern. We could then plan each lesson effectively, ensuring their differences were addressed. At the end of the year, our students outperformed the other two sections. It all began with the question: How well do we know our students' unique needs and abilities?

Develop a deep understanding of your students' strengths, interests, prior knowledge and academic needs. Use pre-assessments and ongoing formative assessments to gather data and inform your instructional decisions. Use Flexible Grouping for students based on their needs and interests. Create flexible groups for targeted instruction, collaborative activities, or peer tutoring. Adjust groups as needed to match the learning outcomes and goals.

Yes agree, know your students first but this does not help if we don't why don't we know why we want education in the first place? That’s the reason why everyone seems to be so lost and all point fingers and want to fix education but no one ever tries to answer this question. For example, wouldn’t it be more important to show young humans first what it is to be a human being with all our systemic segregation, which starts in school where we learn to be social? Instead of forcing young humans' individuality, from being each a genius individual of 8 billion unique people and turning them into cogs for what our systems currently need to make them function and be system-relevant first instead of human-centric understanding of our individuality.

Knowing your learners needs is key in training, where, as a learning professional, you need to have clarity about who your audience is, what their expectations are, and the relevance of your training to their job role.

Absolutely, but in a different context. Most systems are outdated, especially education similar since the 1800’s. Generalizing individual humans is neutering our natural abilities. Research says all young humans before education are 97% with a high ability, better than any other before school and turn into only 3% gifted after the common education process. The great thing about concept-based learning is the ability to explore and demonstrate understanding through different styles of assessment and media. Students with specific learning challenges are therefore able to select the most accessible and effective way to explore and show their learning. The important thing for teachers to remember is that literacy takes many forms, and to facilitate student learning it is not always necessary or appropriate to give students a large amount of reading content or to expect a comprehensive written outcome. Selecting stimuli like images, music or practical demonstrations can have a huge impact on students' ability to access the content without the barrier of language for instance.

It is really hard to implement anything at this young adult age because the dominance of system-relevance forces especially at this age grouping to feel safe being human and belong because of the anticipation to be an adult. If students did not learn first that every human is a one of one of 8 billion unique ones and with unique life-perspectives they panic and live with high risks. Differentiation is humans core-power because we are all unique by nature . At this adolescent stage this is almost impossible after being conditioned to be system-relevant first. If we condition young humans that system-relevance is the higher priority than the uniqueness that we got by nature to ultimately collaborate systematically where we can human-centrically be balanced between being self-aware and synergistically collaborating to experience our human potential instead of being just system-relevant to survive but repeating history from building a system to war and rebuilding again.
