A lifecycle cost analysis supporting the fact that operating expenses (OPEX) exceed the capital expense (CAPEX) of replacing them. Any process efficiency improvements should be quantified and added to that summary. Human capital expenses may be able to be reduced for that asset. DO not forget the cost of install and lost production on your break even analysis. For the love of goodness though, if you are going to upgrade anyways, be sure to future proof your process.

Asset criticality is paramount to a quality reliability program. So many companies fall into the mibdset of believing that their production assets are their most critical assets. If you have seven revenue generating assets but they all require compressed air and you only have one compressor, then ignoring your secondary assets opens you up to shouting down seven assets, instead of one at a time.
