1 What is BIM and CAD?

In the past using ifc as the export format the only information we had to work with from structural models was as a 3D solids model (mostly geometry). Great for clash detection, hierarchies and volumetric (weight) studies. Now using the STAAD format you have access to all the information and the dynamic structural data, like the placement of loads on the structure. Access to more information helps the downstream users of the 'data' do more things beyond the intent of initial creation!
