I would rephrase it to selecting the right tools is important to the DevOps Engineer. The cloud platform is not a thing the DevOps Engineer is selecting except when learning and applying for jobs. Selecting the correct cloud vendor is best done based on what you need there in terms of workload and the knowledge you have in your organization. If you ignore your the organization knowledge you might hit the largest slowdown in adoption because of relearning or hiring need.

Automating testing speeds up deployments, but ongoing testing seems left out of the conversation these days, leaving vulnerabilities hanging between deployments. Consider the delta and reduce the time between possible detection and discovery to avoid leaving vulnerabilities waiting to be exploited. Build into your deployment AND operations plans testing on a regular cadence that will expose vulnerabilities users have.
