Calculating the ROI of an event can be complicated as its effects and impacts aren’t always immediate nor easy to measure. The positive effects of an event will sometimes be felt in the long term: the reputation of your brand, the notoriety and image of your organization, the first commercial contacts that will materialize several months later. We can use 4 step methods: 1- Defining the main objective of the event. 2- Defining KPIs that will monitor this objective. 3- Collect necessary data to track these KPIs. 4- Analyse and understand the results.

One of my favorite metric is : how many orders have we written on the spot ? While it takes time to follow up and close deals . I like to measure success by analyzing what was a done deal right there at the show . We like to add up “ orders written “ and compare to how much we spent to get to the show , set up and work it . This way you have short term , medium and long term impact to challenge also .

During the event you must constantly remind folks to participate in filling out surveys asking for feedback on speakers as things happen. Then at the conclusion do so again. We are OLD SCHOOL here in having physical surveys that people submit. Survey Monkey and other digital ones work fine, but we like the physical ones still as it adds a layer of interaction. But the reason why I have successfully ran 30 international events and they get better and better is because of feedback from those surveys!!

Souvent négligé car l'évènement est passé, et bien le bilan c'est votre assurance vie. C'est ce bilan qui montrer aussi votre professionnalisme. J'ai dépensé un budget de 1 000 000 € ou de 10 000 € voilà le bilan (avec l'ensemble des composantes), et voilà les résultats financiers et d'images. Souvent, on ne prévoit pas suffisamment le budget pour cette notion. Pour ma part, je présente dès le début l'idée du bilan. Car si on refuse de dépenser un montant de X milliers d'euros dans les outils pour réaliser un bilan et bien j'estime que je n'aurai pas de contestation ou autre de désagréable sur le bilan. Car oui un post test, savoir ce que nous a rapporter un évènement coute cher, mais sans cela on n'a que du ressenti pas des fait.

Once I shifted the focus to the target of business owners. That's when the results from my attendees sky rocketed and my business with it. In my experience, it’s extremely difficult to find a generic measurement tool. I think establishing your own measurements upfront (at the same time as thinking through strategy, purpose approach) if the best way to gain meaningful insights from your event. It allows you to build evidence measures before, during and after the event and be meaningful in regards of the data you’re trying to collect. I’ve also found that trying to get evidence (via survey monkey or email) after an event has taken place is very difficult. Having an easy and accessible survey at the time of the event can give you better and broader insights. You can ofcourse always follow this up with a post participant survey/ evaluation.
