12D and Bentley Micro Station or Auto CAD integrate well to do detail design of any road section and visualise the future scenarios based on different options of road design. For example if there is an exisiting intersection needs to be upgrade with a grade separation interchange or flyover, 12D is a good one for the option design and test including the visualisation of it. For the drafting purpose CAD or Micro Station can be used.

Absolutely, form my professional experiences, traffic simulation is a kind of pre- requisite before any detail design for road section in a green field area. Also, for any existing road up-gradation or maintenance of traffic it is essential to know the actual and estimated traffic flow, lane configuration, intersection treatments, speeds limits and road geometry. Few examples of traffic simulation software from my experiences are Aimsun, SIDRA and LinSig. I have used Aimsun to test different road network and land use scenarios for the ultimate buildouts of a certain DSP area. Also, assed the intersection in SIDRA for the best alternatives. For the signal optimisation for a proposed new signalised intersection LinSig was a good solution.

ArcGIS spatial analysis and geospatial statistical analysis tools are very useful for environmental impact assessment. It helps to develop impact matrix using different environmental significant parameters like flora and fauna coverage, endangered species and their habitat areas and predict future possible expansion of those areas, severity impact etc. With the help of GIS tools the we can identify the initial road alignment option by avoiding the environmentally significant areas.
