What are the benefits and challenges of using gamification as a leadership tool?

They have introduced a series of badges such as 'top contributor' that are motivating the user to engage more.

So, they ran a completion with all the stores and kept a scoreboard. He said that his store took #1 in the nation because whenever the drive-thru was empty, one of the team members would hop in their car and cycle quickly through the drive-thru line to push the average time down. The gamification shifted their focus from the customers to the game.

In Army Special Forces, we used gamification for skill development. We competed with each other on the shooting range, radio communications courses, physical fitness tests, medical tasks, and pretty much every other function a special forces soldier might be responsible for. During my time as a Green Beret, we used gamification to plan effectively. One of the "games" we played was "Red Teaming." In this exercise, some of use played the red (or enemy) role while another team played the blue (or friendly) role. We played out operations, either across the table or out in the environment, to see how the real thing might play out. Both sides were competing hard to win. Then, we'd take the insights from the game to create the most effective mission plan. This is something that very few (non-military) organizations do, and I think it's the perfect use for gamification business.
