This in my opinion is the best laser scan data transfer file format because it carries with it all of the metadata. Data is king and anything that truncates what was captured or annotated in the field is not embracing the legacy of the data at the time of capture.

I agree and I feel more software platforms need to recognize it and move from .las, .laz. .pts etc... Adding intelligence to a project should be available in any program.

This needs to be rectified. It should also be noted that the metadata and images should be exportable in a simplified manner. I have seen it where a model will export .e57, but without images. To capture the images, you need to export from somewhere else completely. This creates unnecessary steps and can add to confusion.
