I have personally been using a Leica BLK360 3D scanner for the last two years for small sites (typically residential sites). I am amazed by how much information the digitally twined site provides. The scanner greatly reduces errors and omissions when on-site, as you review and proof the 3D scan as it is created on-site. Afterwards, when you are back in the office, you can take your time to check the site from any viewpoint or use software to isolate or remove objects to get a better sense of the site.
