There is a good technique we all can use to test assumptions, POC, we can create a proof of concept to test and evaluate assumptions which convert to possible solutions. POCs are really useful instruments when doing SRE, for the case of algorithms they are also powerful. With them we can generate data and evaluate over it to find out better alternatives or certain solutions according to our needs.

It's definitely helpful to go and contact an expert in the field if there's one available at the company. Though generally these guys will be busy, they will provide valuable insights to the problems we work on, insights we don't consider the first time we created the solution design.
