In a pharmaceutical project, it happened that a team member missed a critical deadline. The first step was to assess the impact on the project timeline. It was for a regulatory submission deadline: it was missed; this would have creaeted a delay approval for a drug. To solve this, I immediately communicated with the team member to understand the reason for the delay. Then, we adjusted the project plan, reallocating resources to expedite tasks and prevent further delays. Simultaneously, we informed all the stakeholders and provided them with a revised timeline to manage expectations. With monitoring and being in touch with regulatory agencies the new deadlines were met. It is important to set a "deadline" wasy before of the real one.

First of all I would check on the whole procedure while that team member is working on that project to avoid this missing time issue. But after this happened, the policy I will run is collecting the whole team and announcing them to finish this missing part all together and till that job is finished none will do anything except this. But I will keep asking them about the other stuff that they have to do so rest of the team will do the pressure to that member who missed the deadline.

I would definitely reach out to find out the reasons why the person is not able to flow with ease and grace. I would help them to process their feelings and allow them to resume their work with grace and Dignity.

Missing delivery dates on projects does happen but we can minimize any missed dates by putting a good plan together and by following up on open actions regularly. The more attentive we are to each of the steps, the more likely we will hit our dates as planned. "Aim small, miss small" is what I have shared with my teams as a technique to manage project timelines. It's more work to be more detailed but in my experience it is the difference of bringing it in on-time vs. explaining why it is late. The project team and management teams are all happier to see the team complete the project on-time.

Mainly Real and Open Communication. You will be able to find out the days before. When a team member misses a critical deadline, I've found that implementing regular progress check-ins can be highly effective. These check-ins allow the team to identify potential delays early and provide support where needed. Additionally, establishing a culture of open communication encourages team members to voice concerns or obstacles they're facing before they impact deadlines.
