When a team member ignores my coaching advice, I start by understanding why through a 121 conversation to uncover any barriers or concerns. I simplify advice into smaller steps or adapt it to fit their style and linking it to their goals or the team’s success. To build engagement, I involve them in creating solutions, asking for their input and customizing different ways to their strengths. I focus on building trust by showing genuine interest in their success and emphasizing my role as a supporter. I set clear expectations, ensure they understand the importance of follow-through and track progress with regular check-ins. If this doesn’t work, I escalate to a manager to address deeper concerns.
