When you find yourself or someone struggling with technology it is important to not make a huge deal, understand that we need to put it in a way where you are not showing someone down or judging them if they do not know how to use it. Start small and ask them which are the areas they need help with. Once they are comfortable, ask them to use technology atleast once in two weeks first and slowly increase the frequency. Give them opportunity to showcase their learning on technology with other new teachers who are struggling.

Our school had grants that often purchased new technology for our classrooms. There wasn't much time outside of class to do formal trainings. As a co-teacher, I had some flexibility to help my colleagues to get the technology issues resolved. When I fixed something, I showed the student and the other teacher what I did before going onto the next student. This increased the number of people who could fix issues, and increase time focused on the work and not on technology glitches.

When helping teachers make the learn new technology, I started with learning the technology first. I would explore the application first. Next, I would Google videos on the questions that I have. Then, I would sit down for a one-to-one conversation with the struggling teacher. If that doesn't work, I would make a video showing them the steps to use it. Hope this helps!

It's not necessary that you should be master of everything. In this era children are more aware of technology than adults. And learning is not bound to age. So, you can ask children or people around you to guide you. Start from small steps, use one tool first and master it. Remember one thing, keep learning no matter what your age is.

The sheer number of educational technology platforms is overwhelming. As a classroom teacher, you likely do not have time to try many of them. Starting with something simple like Kahoot for review games or adding questions to a Google slides presentation using Peardeck can increase student participation in class. These platforms also have resources to give you a place to start. You do not need to completely transform all your lessons or a whole unit at a time. Start with one thing and be prepared for the lesson to go sideways. Teaching that things do not always go perfectly and it is okay to mess up is also an important lesson. Also, keep in mind that your students likely know how to use much of this technology and could probably help.

I find this point important, and yet often overlooked. There is always a presumption that new technologies will provide a “guaranteed” improvement to the process of teaching, but it is quite possible for it not to be true. It is important to have self-reflection as it can help not only the educators in the goals, but also enrich the students’ learning experience

I have been part of many classes when the entire class period( 90 minutes) hinged on assessments or programs embedded in technology mandated by administration. So many times the technology wasnt reliable. There were interruptions, the internet was down, the technology lab was double booked, power glitches, or the program just didnt work. I learned to always have multiple backup plans to make sure that students could effectively use classtime, and still be able to meet the learning objective in the class.

I made a point to connect with the district tech staff, the building tech representstive, the company representative for the program we were using, and colleagues more savvy in the specific programs. Researching the benefits ahead of time, and approaching implementation with a discerning eye limits issues long term. Questions to ask include; Is this just a program used once, or will it have a larger benefit across the curriculum? Are there uses in the larger job market that the students may encounter in the future? How will this technology help my students to learn more efficiency, or is this just a toy to motivate them? Best Practice will dictate the correct answers.

The cohesive use of technology throughout a school can reduce the cognitive load associated with technology. When multiple platforms become involved, and teachers use different strategies, unnecessary dysfunction can become problematic. There should be a document or a set of videos that can coherently explain how the technology is used in your organization.
