First of all, provider must indicate what changes were applied to their processes after the cost reduction to validate functional and esthetic features. Updated Datasheets and samples must be sent to conduct trials and quality validations prior major production runs. Pilot run must be made (depending on how critical material changed) in order to ensure manufacturability / productivity. Last but not least, important material price and / or leadtime must be improved for us as well.

Monitoring the quality of materials and/or parts that you purchase from third party suppliers is of course the responsibility of the people in your company that receive and check such items. Don’t let warehouse function be limited to signing for quantities of incoming material. Ensure you have qualified people in place who can determine the required quality of such materials. At the same time, you always have to work on maintaining a good and close relationship with your core suppliers so that any changes at their end and possible consequences to their product delivery is known and can be considered by you. In an ideal world such changes are communicated early on and materials are regularly tested for safe and proper use.

To ensure quality isn’t compromised when suppliers cut costs: Strengthen Supplier Relationships: Communicate openly, conduct audits, and clarify material specifications to ensure quality. Quality Control: Inspect incoming materials, conduct batch testing, and use third-party verification to maintain consistency. Incentivize Suppliers: Reward suppliers for meeting quality standards despite cost cuts. Dual Sourcing: Use multiple suppliers to ensure competition and flexibility. Supplier Development: Help suppliers adopt efficient practices to cut costs without lowering quality. Monitor Feedback: Track customer complaints and supplier performance to sustain quality.
