Consulting has a reputation for hard work, a fast pace, and long hours. The objective reality is that not everyone can handle it. And that’s OK!! Consulting is not a 9-5 job, I can easily count the number of days I had that kind of schedule. Consulting is 60+ hour work weeks at a lot of firms. You will miss things. You will miss events, birthdays, that band you love, and can even miss family obligations. The reality is that while consulting pays well, it’s not a role you can expect work-life balance. If that’s important to you, find the ones that do value it, they will be boutique and not Big 4/MBB, create your own, or consider internal strategy positions where you will do similar work.

If you are not practical about establishing a suitable timeline approach, you might as well set yourself up for failure. This is the reason why when I work in a team, I like to understand my teammates' other commitments and schedules. This enables meaningful collaboration on project timelines and deliverables without requiring extensions. A healthy balance while setting timelines is key in determining: a) members' contributions (they may become lazy if they already know that the timeline cannot be met and an extension is inevitable) and; b) client perspective (a team that under-promises and over-performs is always better than the other way around!). Evaluation is of utmost importance before you begin - don't skip it & all the best!

Setting clear objective for each smaller task 3. Continuous planning and review of each tasks 4. Stand-up meetings to monitor progress, address issues and adjust plans. 5. Deliver incremental value and show tangible progress. 6. Utilize Trello or Asana to organize tasks and track progress. These steps often help me prioritize small tasks in the order of importance and deliver faster.

The constraints of time and cost are prevalent in every project . Different approaches are put forward to navigate these factors but what stands out for me in managing projects is the Incremental delivery approach . I perceive and also convinced that in a world where time is of essence ,its imprudent for one to assume that clients will give-up their need for efficiency . One ought to ensure that after every sprint , there is at least a minimum viable output that meets clients requirements . This can be followed with frequent communication to ensure that whatever increments are made in fulfilling the order , the client is sufficiently informed to avoid any conflict .
