Struggling to bridge the gap between UX designers and backend developers in Internet Services?

In many organizations it can be useful to dissolve the boundaries between roles and encourage integration via cross-functional team members. It also unlocks different growth paths for individual contributors. In my last role as a Senior UX Designer at Amazon, I ended up collaborating directly with engineering squads and owning production code for design systems and customer-facing applications. Being a cross-functional bridge between UX and technical implementation meant we shipped higher quality work faster and closer to spec. It encouraged me to train internally on engineering skills for three quarters so I could develop deeper expertise to bridge this gap on future teams.

Here are two concise options to address the UX/backend developer gap in internet services: Early Collaboration: Integrate UX designers early in the development process. This fosters understanding of user needs and technical limitations. Shared Language: Establish clear communication channels and a common vocabulary to bridge the gap between design intent and technical feasibility.

Collaboration between the two teams is really really good for all. In my opinion especially when the UX team understands the challenges and limitations of the backend team .... that obviously leads to great user-friendly and smooth flows apps and of course realistic design.

In the early stage of the app journey, the UX team has the UX research phase and the backend has the implementation of the ERD. So, the two teams do the same phase of stockholders interviews and any other important interviews to collect the info for their two separate phases. The two teams have the same source of info and each has his own way to convert this info to something that serves the app or the project.

I think so, through my UX journey with different apps that solve different problems. I found that the UX should know something about the coding and basics of programming to brainstorm ideas that serve the user flows and simplify the code implementation ideas.
