knowing your audience is essential for formulating what to convey over. Are we taking about internal or external stakeholders, that is one thing to consider. also their knowledge levels need to be considered. when talking with an employee in the offensive security department, it will be different than talking to someone in the IT frontline support department. That also applies for what different departments are responsible for after the incident. lastly, the mean of delivering the information to the stakeholder should be different. With customers for example, it should be more formal with the hint that we are doing everything we could to mitigate the impact, and that protecting your sensitive information is our top priority.

For the Effective Security Incident communication, it is extremely important that you identify and list the stakeholders in the preparation stage. Broadly they can be identified as Internal and External. Internal Stakeholders include Executive/Leadership Team, IT Security Team, Employees. External Stakeholders includes customers, partners, regulators, and possibly the public through Media. Keeping the stakeholders list handy, regularly updating it and testing it through tabletop exercises would ensure that the right audience are kept informed about the security incident.
