How does music composition software enhance your creative workflow?

I agree. In the beginning of my professional composing career writing for live instrumentalists, i kept going back and forth about the idea of writing my music on the software or on paper. I reached a conclusion that in the end it doesn't matter. What matters is the creative flow and the ability to jot down your music in a way remembering the intention behind each musical idea and trying to fine tune the software instrument to get the desired sound you want.

Have fun with the editing capabilities of your DAW. Try things that are uncommon. Cut in a way that no one has cut, paste in way that no one has pasted. The possibilities are endless. Don’t just create something different. Edit something different too.

I agree 100% The thought of having the ability to edit a score without having to throw away a ton of paper would have been the dream of many old great composers. I know Beethoven would have been in heaven if he were living today!

I personally use Dorico and Cubase. Why I love working more with Dorico is because it is the only notation software that is a s close to a DAW when it comes to music notation software. I prefer composing with MIDI in the initial stages of a piece, but when transferring to notation, i know i can rely on Dorico. This is not a paid ad BTW!

Collaborating is a great way to meet new creators and reach new spaces of creativity, but let’s also consider the business side. Make sure that you and the collaborator agree on what the music will be used for, and ownership percentages. It’s always good to discuss this prior to creating. If a potential collaborator isn’t willing, then that may be a red flag.

This is something that resonates with me personally as I am a composer who likes to hear how the Timbre, harmony and rhythms work together in real time to make my final decision in finalizing a piece. It does give a less human aspect when taking the audio into consideration, but that's where a trained ear and imagination goes into play. You should imagine a real player or players performing you work. That's what I do always while composing is that I try to imagine the players playing a certain musical phrase or section and that is when I would make my decision to either change the direction of the phrase or develop it further.

Couldn't agree more. I have my doubts sometime about the purity of the process of writing through software, DAW or Notation, but in the end it's the workflow and the ability to implement your ideas as seamlessly as possible to maintain the intention behind a certain musical idea. That, I find, is the most important thing in creativity. And it's essential to get very familiar with it (The software you use) like playing the piano, you have to practice to get better at transferring your ideas from your head to the "Page".
