Sourced from rainfall, runoff, irrigation, or aquifers, groundwater's diverse origins bring variations in salinity, acidity, hardness, and contamination. These factors significantly influence construction activities like concrete mixing, aggregate washing, and equipment cooling. Thorough testing and continuous monitoring of groundwater quality are indispensable pre and during construction. By addressing these factorss, we ensure the longevity and efficiency of our projects.

The effect of groundwater is less when the excavation work is not deep, such as excavations for secondary network for storm water drainage pipes , using dewatering and shoring system for soil, and the effect of groundwater increases in deep excavations, which require piles.

I have an extensive experience in underground projects of mining, tunnels and super structures in planes and mountain terrains. During excavations, drillings and slope protection support works. During the procedures the natural water streams get diverted and natural sources of water become depleted. This leads to scarcity of water sources and the contamination due to various processes of grout support leads to water pollution. As various water streams get diverted and water flow becomes major reasons for the failure of structures such as seepages and landslides in mountains. So in my opinion some corrections and corrective measures should be implemented to conserve the environment and most importantly the water and land pollution.

Ground water is one of the Major constrains in Construction Industry. It will have huge impact in Underground Piping, Chambers, Duct Bank, Culvert and Tunnels Etc.. Dewatering is one of the good way and in mean time white sand laying with chips is also one of the remedy . If its Natural Calamity, no other way than covering the excavated area by plastic steels and welding can be done on Fabrication yard if the pipeline is smaller in size. Proper drainage system can be obtained by forecasting the weather. The biggest prevention strategy I’ve benefitted from was planning for worst case scenario from the beginning. We had significant rain event plans, high wind plans, below freezing plans, etc. Every time something went sideways, we already had a plan and could keep moving.
