Some examples of power words are: now, limited, guaranteed, proven, secret, free, and ultimate.
Make your words pop by using strong action verbs, passionate language, and painting a vivid picture. Make it clear that time's running out and they need to get going!
A call to action (CTA) is the part of your copy that tells your readers what you want them to do next. It should be clear, concise, and specific. Avoid vague or generic phrases like "learn more" or "contact us". Instead, use verbs that convey the value and urgency of your offer, such as: claim, download, join, enroll, or start. You can also add a time limit, a bonus, or a testimonial to your CTA to increase its effectiveness.
The PAS formula is a simple but powerful way to structure your copy. It stands for Problem-Agitate-Solution. First, you identify the problem that your readers are facing and empathize with them. Then, you agitate the problem by showing them the consequences of not solving it and the benefits of solving it. Finally, you present your solution as the best or only way to solve their problem and invite them to take action.
The absolute key to crafting high-impact copy is to start with a robust brief: a crystal-clear sense of who you are trying to reach, what they actually care about, and what specific messages and proof they'll need to hear to convince them to take action (now). Everything flows from knowing your target customer. Only from this position can you credibly characterise their precise problem, build trust, and articulate why yours is the solution they need.
Social proof is the evidence that other people have used and liked your product or service. It can take the form of testimonials, reviews, ratings, case studies, or endorsements. By adding social proof to your copy, you can increase your credibility, trust, and authority. You can also use social proof to create a sense of urgency by showing how many people have already taken action or how limited your offer is.
- Incorporate testimonials, success stories, or statistics that showcase the positive outcomes others have experienced by taking the desired action quickly.
Contrast and comparison are effective ways to highlight the value and uniqueness of your offer. You can use contrast to show how your offer is different from or better than your competitors or the status quo. You can use comparison to show how your offer is similar to or compatible with something that your readers already know or like. For example, you can use phrases like "unlike other", "similar to", or "the same as".
The last tip is to test and optimize your copy. You can use tools like Google Analytics, A/B testing, or heat maps to measure and improve the performance of your copy. You can test different elements of your copy, such as headlines, CTAs, images, or layout. You can also use feedback from your readers or customers to refine and polish your copy.
Recently I was asked to craft an urgent email for a time-limited fitness program offer. The goal was to get people to sign up fast, so I lead with a catchy subject line: "Last Chance to Elevate Your Fitness!" In the email, I used power words to emphasize how the clock is ticking. I showed how the program has potential to transform their fitness journey. Plus I added a success story of a woman who ended up beating her boyfriend at pull-ups after a month! There was a countdown timer to add urgency, and a clear CTA urged them to join immediately and begin their transformation. It worked! Click-through rates soared & sign-ups poured in. Urgency, relatable stories, and straightforward messaging really do drive action if done right.
