You can manipulate SVGs (animating and styling them) through CSS. While this has a bit of a learning curve if you’re not familiar with it already, and it may take some time to understand, the effort definitely pays off. Another thing to pay attention to is that SVGs can sometimes end up larger in size than other formats, so optimization is very important. One of the best tools I’ve ever used is SVGOMG, which gives you a ridiculous amount of optimization possibilities.
I worked on the Dutch Pre- Press Computer "Aesthedes" in the 80s. I was a Graphic Designer/Art Director at the Rod Dyer Group running the Aesthedes. Prior to my arrival at RDG a stat camera was used to create camera art from hand-drawn/inked artwork. With the Aesthedes it added a new dimension to the process, the image was scanned by a camera and redrawn as a vector image. HP Pen Plotter was attached to the Aesthedes to create camera-ready artwork for print. Vector Graphics have pretty much always enabled the designer to have flexibility in creating artwork. With the arrival of Apple Computers and Adobe software, opened up all sorts of possibilities. Designers are resourceful and will find a way to make it happen.
Vector ist aber meiner Meinung nach nur gut für flache Dinge - wie ein Logo. Ein Bild von einem lachenden Menschen wird als Vector-Graphik nicht die selbe gute Wirkung haben.
