You can be rejected for: 1) Applying for the wrong jobs. 2) A "fuzzy" resume 3) The other candidates are better. The more you understand the process, the better you can use the process to your advantage.

After facing rejection in your job search, it's crucial to re-evaluate and update your strategy. Seek feedback from the employer if possible, and conduct a thorough self-assessment of your application and interview performance. Refine your resume and cover letter to better align with the jobs you're targeting, and consider expanding your search to include different types of roles or companies. Remember to maintain a positive attitude and persevere, as rejection is a common hurdle in the job search process. Easier said than done, reflection is hard when you are putting your self out there in the job market. One tip thats proved invaluable is from Josh Braun and that is "detach yourself from the outcome". I now focus on what I can control, reflect as part of my continuous improvement plan then adjust as necessary. I find that it keeps me sane while getting better. Hope this helps.

Very right said and getting feedback is a great way to ponder upon one's weakness, if genuine feedback is provided. Unfortunately, I personally never got feedback in such cases despite requesting for the same. All I got was a standard template reply which does not say much to reflect upon. Having said that, have not given up and continue to explore new opportunities. A little sense of frustration prevails when the job description matches 100% with one’s previous roles, and you get a standard template reply saying other more suitable candidates are considered. Nevertheless, there are endless opportunities out there and one will be materialised at the right time. Best of luck to all the opportunity seekers.

Aim to improve not only the contents of your resume but also its design. So, besides tailoring your resume, use a professional resume template. Also, don't limit yourself to just one page if you have enough relevant information for a two-page resume.

Additionally, using strong action verbs that convey your contributions clearly can make a significant impact. For instance, terms like "implemented," "increased," or "developed" can show your active role in achieving results. Remember to include any relevant certifications or ongoing education that align with the job, as this can further highlight your commitment to your professional development.

If you find your resume often being kicked back without ever given the chance to prescreen or interview, try changing the format or template. It may not be the information, just the way it is presented. Also ensure you are tailoring your resume to the role you are applying for. Even if it appears to be the same role listed twice at the same company, you better review it, there may be differences, there could be 2 different managers hiring. Take nothing for granted, treat every role different, and tailor you resume towards that role, and try to use the language of the author when you can, some roles are called different things in different companies, respect that, it may be why you are being passed by.

In addition to key words I would also match the tone of the company as well. loom at their web site, the job listing and mirror their tone as this will make you sound like you'll be a good fit.

This is not fatiliatic rather insurance incase we have not covered everything, it gives me another chance to sell myself. Find a method of networking that works for you! Attending events, conferences etc can be a total waste of time unless you go to the event with a clear strategy of who you want to meet and why. I would encourage job seekers to identify 10 key people who can potentially help them achieve their ideal next role and instead focus on getting some 1:1 time with them - even 10-15 minutes can provide far more reward than hours spent at events with no real strategy.

For me consistency is the key rather than one big effort. Every day I read either 1 blog related to my field, 1 chapter of a business book or listen to 1 business podcast. If time is short I have blinkist loaded on my phone so I can listen to a book short. I find that this sparks new ideas, keeps me fresh and a little bit every day gives me space to think, ponder and come up with ways to apply the ideas I've just learned.

As people we are wired for connection not rejection. When we are rejected it can feel very personal because it is happening to us as an individual. Rejection is also tough on the back of all the effort that's goes into applying for roles & selection processes. To feel disappointed when you don't get offered a role is a totally human reaction but don't let it linger too long and stop you moving forward. Use those feelings that come with rejection as motivation instead, to reflect, to be constructive, to stay engaged and focus back on your key strengths. Rejection from one role can be an opportunity to secure another role that proves to be a much better fit.

As ex-recruiter, I personally hate the term "rejection" when used in an application process. I always advice my rebels who are looking for a remote job to look at "rejections" as more of a misfit. First of all, it's not personal, you're not going to get along or be attracted to every person you meet and that's normal. It doesn't mean that you're rejecting them or they are rejecting you, it just means you are not a match. Even when you are feeling disappointed and dejected - know that it wasn't the job for you and that something better will come along.
