How do you update and maintain your project leadership skills resume over time?

It’s easy to forget outcomes, ROI, or other project details over time. If you wait until you need an updated resume, which could be years, you may not remember the details of a project 3? 5? years ago. For that reason I try to update my master resume at least twice a year. I keep a master resume that has everything. When applying for a new position, I start with a copy and tailor to each application.

Considero que debemos de efectuar al menos lo siguiente: 1. Participar en cursos, talleres y conferencias relacionadas con la gestión de proyectos y el liderazgo para mantenernos al día con las últimas tendencias y mejores prácticas. 2. Buscar oportunidades para liderar proyectos y situaciones para aplicar las nuevas habilidades adquiridas en situaciones reales. 3. A medida que adquirimos nuevas habilidades y experiencia, debemos de actualizar nuestro currículum. Si efectuamos esto y nos enfocamos en nuestro crecimiento y mejora, podremos mantener nuestro CV relevante y actualizado a lo largo del tiempo.

Soft Skills in my opinion continue to be a lost art in today's society - corporations are struggling more than ever to locate "LEADERS". It is very important we constantly work on our Soft Skills to become great leaders, communicators, networkers, motivators, mentors and stakeholder partners. Hard Skills are going to help us develop the plan, hash out our metrics and create project deliverables - but in the end with any large project spreading across multiple work streams, we need great leaders and communicators to drive the actual execution. Highlight these skills! They are becoming increasingly needed across the industry....

Showcasing interpersonal, communication, and emotional intelligence skills is not just a formality—it's the bedrock of successful collaboration within diverse teams. Demonstrating your ability to facilitate, negotiate, influence, motivate, and manage expectations is a testament to your capacity to navigate the intricate human dynamics of project management.

Here are some important guidelines to update your resume as per ATS compliance. 1. Make sure your resume contains contact details like email, phone, current location etc. 2. Your resume should mention your core skills as well as soft skills 3. Provide a link to some of your important work and profiles like LinkedIn profile, GitHub profile etc. 4. Showcase your achievement by adding metrics. For example - Handled a project portfolio worth 5 million dollars and increased the headcount to 150 to meet the target deadline. 5. Add a few important sections like skills, certificates, awards, and previous achievements. 6. Add keywords relevant to the job description in your resume. It's always better to tailor your resume as per specific JD.

Use keywords throughout your resume. This will help your resume to be found by potential employers when they are searching for candidates with specific skills and experience. Use a clear and concise format. Your resume should be easy to read and scannable. Use headings and subheadings to organize your information and make it easy for recruiters to find the information they are looking for. Proofread your resume carefully. Make sure there are no errors in grammar or spelling. Ask a friend, family member, or colleague to review your resume. They can provide feedback on the content and format of your resume.

It is important to ensure your resume remains relevant with the current you. Naturally you will develop new skill sets while dropping some (unutilized hence forgotten) due to the trade in progression, do not hesitate to redact more while adding some. After all, you are selling your service and not your history.

As a leader, you should be implementing a constant review cycle anyway to ensure that you are constantly adapting to change and the best resource for the team/project. Leadership is not about being in control, leadership is about offering the best support to ensure the best outcome. Knowing when to step back and relinquish control/authority makes for greater leadership than trying to retain the power for the sake of experience/position. If you are a leader and you are critically assessing yourself, referencing and developing/updating your resume is something you will be doing anyway. A resume is a great way to stay grounded and focused on your goals.

I take our time in regular intervals to reflect back on the accomplishments and filter out things which mean the most to me. This helps me see my progress in my professional career and see how I align with the current market trends. I divide my accomplishments into - Tools that I have learned - Projects that I have completed - Most tough situations that I came across and how I handled those - How my decisions and work have impacted the organisation Once this analysis is done, I try to articulate all these points into my resume

Having full time remote work I rarely send a 4 year old resume which was made for a specific project needs. Obviously a lazy and illiterate, unresponsible approach. Thanks for reminding guys)

Leadership is a way of thinking and it will be evident in all aspects of one's life. It will not be confined to one's resume. Leadership skills will be noticed in your everyday interactions, your responses and how you approach things. This a long term approach where consistency will help o e highlight this highly sought skill.
