Obviously, using Marvel as an example, not many of their movies follow the page-turning hero floppies as fans have read them, right? You dissect a book by reading it. As you read it, summarize the chapters. Include details, characters, and elements that stand out to you. You're going to use these summaries to construct your beat sheet—a few drafts, I'm sure. I like to meditate on the way I see my story playing out, so I close my eyes and make a list of all the places I want to see the story resolve itself. Use that list of scene headings and your beat sheet to fill in the blanks. Now, write.
