How do you train and supervise inventory counters and auditors?

Quality vs quantity is key whereas it has to be done at an acceptable speed quality in limiting errors is crucial to the process

Also we need to always consider enhancing user experience to ensure that the tools are user-friendly with minimal learning curves. To keep track of the required tools, a checklist containing all the auditor necessary tools will be essential for tracking and minimizing blockers due to missing tools.

With the key to random audits being exactly random and not favored to a new counter to avoid a sense of mistrust which will in the long term affect both quality and moral of the staff

Our cycle counters are vital to the overall success of our organization. If we don't have inventory, we can't satisfy the customer. I like to reward our cycle count team with nice jackets or polos that have our company logo and a title underneath that says something like "inventory control management". That way our cycle counters feel like they are part of something and it motivates them to be better.

In addition to rewards for tasks completed look to reward initiative especially when it comes to team members helping each other out with basics which emphasis on the team succeeding together

When going over results a conversation starter to the team members is key how do you feel this count went? Or what were the challenges between this count and last?

Hire pratically knowledgeable staff with high Integrity, Good IQ, Quickfix Solutions, Vigilant, Tracking, Analytical skills, Ability to derive inference from the data. Review SOP's and work instructions. Impart on the job training. Plan perpetual inventory count. Provide goals, targets and measure the performance on quarterly basis. Provide fair feedback. Inform the growth and development program. Daily exhange of information. Conduct quarterly audits to mitigate the gaps and risks. Appreciating the performance.

One personal example we had was with a counter who was good but slower then the rest upon further investigation it was found the counter was left handed but our process and supplies were set up for a right handed count simply changing there supply cart and starting point made the team member one of the fastest and most accurate counters
