The world of work is changing. We no longer need to be in a physical space like an office—or even a particular city—to get our work done. In my experience, clarity of expectations (mostly done by the Mentee post a session or in the beginning with timelines) and a fortnightly check in (measure what matters) is the best way to progress. I have successfully used google docs, at times simple whatsapp messages/emails to monitor the progress.

I always believe mentoring is reciprocal. Thus when offering feedback, I request feedback too on how they are receiving me as a mentor. Despite the remote nature of the mentoring, mentees tend to feel closer to you as a result, because they feel acknowledged and accepted for their thoughts and feelings. One mentee, on offering this to her, was so overcome with emotion - because no one had asked her to offer her own experience with her mentor before. It brought forth some new learnings for her and we bonded even stronger through our virtual platform.
