As an automotive salesperson, you have a unique opportunity to educate your customers about how to take care of their vehicles and prevent costly repairs. Here are some tips on how to teach customers about car maintenance.
The first step is to know your product inside and out. You should be familiar with the features, specifications, and benefits of the car models you sell, as well as the recommended maintenance schedule and warranty coverage. This way, you can explain to your customers how to use their cars properly and what services they need to keep them in good condition. You can also highlight the advantages of choosing your dealership for maintenance, such as certified technicians, quality parts, and special offers.
Car Maintenance. If you want to know what is right to be done to make your car run smoothly for long miles, the first thing to do is to read the car's manual! None knows your car better than the people who built it! Believe me, they know even your car's project problems. Then you have to find a good mechanic shop, these guys are the ones who will make sure all the bolts, washers and nuts are correctly tighten, with the specific torque. Make sure the new oil, and other fluids that are going to be replaced in your car, meet the manufecturer's specification. Calibrate the pressure of the tires every time you fuel up (weekly at least). Simple and short, that's it! Drive safe! If you're gonna drive, don't drink. If you're gonna drink, invite me!
The second step is to use simple and clear language when teaching your customers about car maintenance. Avoid using technical jargon or acronyms that may confuse or intimidate them. One very important thing to have your car in a good condition is to use frequently. Every week you have to ride at least 10 - 15 kilometers, and you have to turn on the air conditioning at least once a month. Don′t ride just 2 or 3 kilometers, because the fluids temperature won′t be at the correct leves. With this basic care, you wil avoid many maintenance problems and costs!
The third step is to emphasize the benefits of car maintenance for your customers. Rather than focusing on the negative consequences of neglecting or delaying maintenance, such as breakdowns, accidents, or reduced value, focus on the positive outcomes of following the maintenance schedule, such as improved safety, performance, fuel efficiency, and longevity. You can also relate the benefits to your customers' personal goals and needs, such as saving money, protecting the environment, or enjoying their driving experience.
Treating your car well will make it run smoothly for longer miles, but that's not all. You ride it everyday. Sometimes you take your famiy with you for a ride. Think about their safety! If it runs perfectly and adjusted, you save some bucks on fuel and preserve the environment. Maintenance is to be responsible with you, your family and the whole environment. Think about it!
The fourth step is to provide your customers with reminders and tips on car maintenance. You can do this by sending them emails, texts, or phone calls when their next service is due, or by providing them with stickers, magnets, or calendars that show the maintenance intervals. You can also share useful tips on how to check and change the fluids, tires, wipers, and lights, or how to prepare their cars for different seasons and weather conditions. By doing this, you can show your customers that you care about their satisfaction and safety, and that you are a reliable source of information and assistance.
Tires - use the correct one and make sure they're still within the wear limits. Breaks - fluid has to changes from time to time, according to the manual. Pads, make sure they're still within the wear limit. Suspension - make sure they are working properly. Engine - replace the fluids according to the manual, check the timing valve adjustment, belts and hoses. Others: Baterry, fuses, lights... These are basic things to put attention on!
The fifth step is to encourage your customers to give you feedback and ask you questions about car maintenance. You can do this by asking them how their cars are running, if they have any concerns or issues, or if they need any help or advice. You can also invite them to visit your dealership or website for more resources and support, or to join your social media platforms or online forums for more tips and discussions. By doing this, you can build trust and rapport with your customers, and establish yourself as an expert and a friend.
