No one knows the presentation but you, so if something happens, acknowledge and move on, apologize if needed, or ask if they need a break to address the introduction. If you have built your pitch correctly, then any likely question is likely to be answered in a later slide. It follows that you may well be able to minimise the iniital interruption by smoothly responding that "you fully understand their concern", and that the particular challenge made will be "fully answered later in the presentation". It doesn't always work (depends on the persistence of the questioner to be honest) - but is the best way of staying on message when it does!

It is also useful to refer back to the original interruption question later in the presentation. This reminds the questioner that their question was indeed relevant and important, whilst also acknowledging that you were already aware of that concern and the response needed prior to the presentation. This "looping" back to an earlier challenge is good practice, and has the added benefit of bringing other attendees more fully into the details of your pitch.

Additionally, practicing how to handle interruptions can prepare you to respond calmly and effectively when they occur. This preparation can include rehearsing with a colleague who simulates common disruptions or thinking through potential scenarios in advance. Being well-prepared helps you maintain composure and ensures that the flow of your pitch remains smooth and professional.

Another effective strategy is to offer to address more detailed or off-topic questions at the end of the presentation. This approach acknowledges the audience's curiosity while keeping the main flow of your pitch intact. For instance, you can say, "That's an excellent point, and I'd love to discuss it further during the Q&A session at the end. For now, let's move on to..." This helps maintain focus while assuring the audience that their questions are valued.
