How do you show the value of your robot projects?

The form of showing your achievements of a specific project with a robot will vary depending on WHO your audience is. However, keep in mind that projects with robots are almost always hardware development projects. In such projects, a video showing the operation of the robot and the type of problem the application solves will be a universal way of presenting the entire solution. However, there is no right answer here, but presenting the achievements in the form of a video will be a universal and effective way to show the performance of the project!

Interesting question: Here are few take away from my experience. - No matter its a robotic project or say any other project what actually the business love is money. Show your product is superior than manual execution and cost projections. -Fairs and events does help to gain some momentum but its not the only way. You need to build trust in the market you have expertise. - Bigges vs Startups is always a challenge. - Keep product simple and less domain centric and avoid dependencies on domain experts.

Demonstrate the value of robot projects through concise communication of their tangible benefits. Highlight improved efficiency, reduced labor costs, enhanced precision, and safety advancements. Utilize quantitative data, such as time and cost savings, error reduction rates, and productivity increases, to showcase the project's clear and measurable advantages.

Highlight coding skills and problem-solving abilities for technical recruiters, while emphasizing the real-world problem-solving capabilities and revenue generation potential for business owners. First simulation and then validation on a wide range of real-world scenarios is the key for broad applicability of robotic platforms.

There is so much buzz around robotics right now --> it's crucial that you "hook" in the audience for your project. Start with a catchy short video (30-60 seconds), showing the result of your work. From there, you can link to e.g. a website or a paper or further documentation.

With a project A3. It lays out the problems, what you did to solve them and the financial benefit through timed fiscal audits.

It doesn't matter if you've decided to make a video with a description, a post, a report, or a vlog-type video. The value proposition for robotic projects is key. Otherwise, it will only be: 'cool to watch robot video'. Include all the problems and pain points that the robot solves: lower demographics and lack of people to work, increased production, and fewer customer complaints. Back it up with real numbers so that someone on the other side can use your content - study the case! e.g. Focus on business and economic factors. Technical perplexities are also OK, but remember that the project has to be profitable in the first place. Deliver these and your content will be beneficial!

Building a robot is Hard. It is even harder to show the ROI and Value proposition of a robot. Depending on your audience, your approach, data, and presentation will vary. If I am approaching a potential customer the most important focus would be the problem that we are trying to solve and how efficiently we are solving it, followed by a reasonable ROI timeline. Robots are expensive to buy. Many think that Robot is scary and dangerous. Therefore a well-thought-out workflow design and an intuitive and streamlined user experience are key to winning the heart of the end user. Witnessing the robot in action through live demonstrations and an existing customer testimony creates an immediate experiential connection with your audience.

The value proposition of a robot will be different depending on the person who’s benefiting from it (investors, employees, customers, policymakers, etc). How is this robot helping to ease the pain points of different actors? Understanding what is the value that each stakeholder is adding by using the robot could strengthen the overall value proposition.

make sure to cluster value proposition in logical categories from a customer perspective. A use case is not the same as a value case. A technology / feature is not the same as an application and a benefit. Once you have clarity on each, structure your value prop around that

Cornerstone of any value proposition is the ROI or Return On Investment calculation. Get your prospect's help in fully costing out how things are being done now and plug these numbers ideally into a fully developed spreadsheet template. Then walk your customer through every step as you project what the full costs will be of the new robotics alternative. Typically you will notice a cost advantage and capacity increase with most robotics projects. When automating former manual stages of a production line don't forget to figure in overtime cost increases, holidays, benefits and other perks that will never apply to the robot. Run the numbers for current levels and projected levels of production for more insight.

In my experience, prospects understand our offering the best if we tell them how we utilize our robots internally. To prove that implementing robots increases the output at a better quality and reliability, it is easier to relate and adapt to their challenges.

If you are applying for a job in robotics, showcase your skills by demonstrating a project you have done in the past, you can use your GitHub public profile. Merely mentioning your programming skills or a specific technology does not help the hiring manager a lot.

Story telling is one of the most impactful things in our industry. I have seen companies and people create incredible solution but if they are unable to communicate it well it falls flat. Find what will resonate with your audience and keep it short.

Great for robotics is to connect it to history. Robotics has been around for decades, but in different stages (automotive, warehouse, drones, AMRs, etc.)

Don't talk about your product. Rather tell a story about who you are, and why are you building this. Why do you want to solve this specific problem? Connect your journey to a greater cause. The customer must feel that you are one of them. You are experiencing their problem keeping yourself in their shoes.

An open communication between all stakeholders is key. The feedback from the users must get back to the developers, so that the right features can be implemented. Sometimes if you are too deep in a topic, it can happen that you don't see your own limitations anymore, so feedback from a different perspective helps you to overcome this.

Don't forget: you don't need to develop everything yourselves. Engage with the robotics community, see how others are doing it, share expertise and approaches. Sharing is caring!

Video is a powerful tool. There is a place for writing but showing applications and solutions working in there intended environments speaks volumes of theory and demo rooms.
