How do you share system administration solutions with others?

Post it on LinkedIn, share the wealth. Often many Systems hubs (or communities) exist where we can share ideas and lessons learned.

I post 'solutions' to my problems by writing blog articles on it. I do this mostly for my own reference but in all honesty, if I look at the amount of traffic these articles generate it is certainly helping a lot of other people as well.

Stack Overflow and other searchable IT support/research platforms are invaluable in the system administration realm if you want to fix anything. There is a new remote system administration tooling that I find interesting. It can leverage the "Infra As Code" idea, with a UI, and automation to administer systems in a predictable, repeatable, shareable way. Think Puppet but with a drag-n-drop experience. No experience required ;)

Be active and interactive in groups on different social media ... Be helpful and get helped from others as well. Build a repository where and part of that repository where people like to shares their experience .

Join a System Admin community group from an organization that aligns with your profession be it K-12, Higher Ed or Industry. If you can’t find one in your professional organization start one.

We are setting up a tool which is an automation platform system admins would be using to perform their day to day tasks. This tool automatically writes the workflows in the background and stores in KMDB which are referred automatically for similar issues system admins take up again. System admins simply validate the ‘suggested’ workflow and purpose it or repurpose it to take action automatically.

Share with your co-workers Sharing knowledge with your co-workers is a valuable practice that fosters a collaborative and efficient work environment. One effective way to do this is by creating comprehensive documentation. This could include guidelines, best practices, troubleshooting steps, and more. After creating documentation, it’s stored in a location accessible to the entire team or organization, like a network share, a SharePoint site or any other collaborative platform used by your organization . This allows co-workers to easily access shared knowledge, promoting ongoing learning and collaboration. It helps keep key information intact, irrespective of staff changes.
