I second the above, with all this invoices are more of assets in the business the help with inventory reconciliation, cashflow planning and sales made . Invoices are also need to have balances of the customers accounts so to inform the customer of the their account status and if any dispute is felt is can be resolved and corrected

Consistency is key. In healthcare, reconciliation is never black and white (ever). We like to show our appreciation to the partners that consistently keep an open line of communication with us. Whenever those partners do need an extra few days to reconcile, we honor them with those extra few days to pay w/o penalty. It's hard to grant that same privilege to partners who fall silent, or just don't make an effort.

This way if the customer has missed an Invoice, they can catch through the statement. It is extremely important to send the Invoice in a timely manner, especially at year end. I have seen vendors Invoice come through with a date from 6 months before. Also, if a Purchase Order was received with instructions where to send the Invoice, then follow those instructions. What's most important, if any issues, then pick up the phone and call the customer/vendor. Not all things are solved via email.
