How do you select and prioritize QHSE performance indicators for your organization?

In my experience, the most important thing when thinking about QHSE indicators is the need to be understandable to all employees at all levels. Having indicators that bring complexity to management follows the course of inefficiency, in the same way when the number of indicators to measure any type of process is exceeded. The simple, makes everything so, simple. Going back to basics is what we need to think about in organizations.

To select and prioritize QHSE performance indicators: ?? 1. Identify relevant metrics aligned with organizational goals and objectives. ?? 2. Consider regulatory requirements, industry standards and stakeholder expectations. ?? 3. Evaluate data availability, reliability and ease of measurement. ?? 4. Prioritize indicators that reflect significant risks or areas needing improvement. ?? 5. Involve key stakeholders in the selection process to ensure buy-in and alignment. ?? 6. Continuously review and adjust indicators based on changing priorities and needs. ?? By following these steps, organizations can effectively measure and improve QHSE performance. ??

Definir objetivos e metas de QSMS requer o entendimento da Cultura da empresa, bem como o histórico de indicadores. N?o adianta definir metas intangíveis, pois servirá somente para desmotivar e descredibilizar os objetivos de QSMS. Um erro comum é mirar no zero acidente, sem antes se estabelecer um programa de preven??o robusto, que vise a redu??o de acidentes de forma sustentável.

Proper Planning would be very crucial for QHSE Objectives. Involving a PDCA Cycle that is to Plan Do Check and Act cycle enables monitoring of the goals set and identifying areas of improvements through audits and Inspection thus attainment of QSHE Objectives.

Identificar os indicadores de performance é muito importante, principalmente porque por vezes s?o monitorados apenas indicadores reativos, tais como: taxa de frequência e taxa de gravidade de acidentes, quantidade de resíduo gerado, quantidade de emiss?es de gases efeito estufa, quantidade de restri??es em exames de saúde, etc. Precisamos medir indicadores de preven??o, tais como: inspe??es de seguran?a, % de conformidade nas inspe??es, iniciativas para redu??o de emiss?es de gases efeito estufa, monitoramento da saúde dos colaboradores, etc.

Otra vez seguiría mirando al principio de la calidad que establece como valor la participación del personal. Mantener el principio de acciones basadas en hechos; y con la base de haber implementado lo que es un objetivo y cómo se estructura; paso a la formación de los indicadores. Creo firmemente que si los trabajadores saben para dónde van y se tiene en el timon de la organización una gerencia coherente, se puede trazar un camino para el logro de los objetivos. Set realistic targets for each selected indicator. These targets should be challenging yet achievable. Establish thresholds (acceptable levels) for each indicator. When thresholds are exceeded, corrective actions should be triggered.

For your KPI's you usually have a mix of - Lagging indicators - Incidents, Accidents, LTI Frequency Rates etc. Leading Indicators - Training Delivered, Audits Conducted, Inspections Completed, Actions Closed out in Agreed time frames etc.

Dados mis comentarios a dados en 1 y 2, lo menos que pueden esperar los trabajadores es que se le tenga al tanto de los avances; de los cuellos de botellas; y de lo que economicamente, desde el punto del nivel de QHSE alcanzado. También de las trabas. No sería sano que los rumores de pasillo se imponga a la voz de la alta gerencia. Divulgar es ganar. Es mi juicio que el mejor psicologo organizacional es el propio trabajador. En esto lo equiparo con el cliente. Sin lugar a dudas (mi juicio), lo pueden enga?ar una vez, talvez dos o tres; pero no lo puedes enga?ar siempre. Ese momento de toma de consciencia de lo que ocurre, será suficiente para dar al traste con cualquier organización, no importa que tan grande y/o solida parezca.

Para elegir los indicadores de rendimiento QHSE es necesario partir desde la planificación estratégica: qué hacemos, cómo lo hacemos, con quién contamos, para quién lo hacemos, cuáles son los requisitos normativos, legales, relamentarios, propios de la organización, cómo queremos vernos a 3, 5, 10 a?os, cuáles son nuestros compromisos QHSE, estos y otros factores adicionales sentaran las bases para establecer los objetivos, los indicadores, las metas, las acciones, la revisión y el seguimiento, los responsables, los recursos para lograrlos y los canales de comunicación necesarios. El análisis requiere de un equipo multidisiplinario integrado por la alta dirección y líderes de los procesos, tanto de QHSE como de soporte y administrativos .
