After mastering advanced search, I gave up the practice of putting emails into folders which I used my first 10 online years. I prefer typing operators manually (it is faster), but using the menu is a good starting point as well. After getting search results I often create a filter. Along with archiving the search results, another common scenario is 'Never send to spam'! Spammers often mimic that emails are sent from your address, and because of that, your legitimate emails may get into spam.

Starring works particularly well to note a particular email in a long thread. E.g. you know the thread but lack the time and enthusiasm to go through it and find the required masterpiece. Thus if you exclude the threading and mark just that email(s) of higher importance, you are saved!

Turning off threads in often overlooked. In the end, that was a revolutionary feature Gmail pioneered! But in some settings, it may bring more bad than good things. Searching through a long thread might become a disaster. If there are multiple unread messages in the thread, one needs to pay particular attention not to skip any. And so on! Thus don't forget to give it a try and turn threads off when Gmail is frustrating! You might not like the result and come back to threads. But you might like Gmail without threads as well and not come back to it as we did in M350.
