1 Safety metrics

One way to measure safety excellence is to use quantitative indicators, such as incident rates, lost time, near misses, audits, and inspections. These metrics can help you track your performance, identify trends, and benchmark against industry standards. However, safety metrics are not enough to capture the full picture of safety excellence. They can also be influenced by external factors, such as reporting culture, workload, and seasonality. Therefore, you should also consider qualitative indicators, such as feedback, observations, and suggestions.

Safety Excellence is more about a Company's culture, attitude, and values towards Safety. Here are 3 signs for me to detect Safety Excellence: 1. Strong Leadership - All Managers follow Company Safety policies and procedures. They do not have a "Follow what I say but do not follow what I do" attitude. They are role models of Safety. 2. Proactive Safety Management System - The company does not wait for an incident, they address hazards proactively. An example is the use of Tools such as Technology for advanced and proactive Safety Management. 3. Genuine Care for each other - The employees themselves don't need the Safety Officers to check on them; instead, they check on each other and hold each other accountable for Safety.

2 Safety culture

Another way to recognize safety excellence is to assess the safety culture of your workplace. Safety culture is the shared values, beliefs, and attitudes that influence how people think and act about safety. A positive safety culture is one where safety is a priority, everyone is engaged and accountable, and learning and improvement are encouraged. You can evaluate your safety culture by using surveys, interviews, focus groups, or other methods to collect and analyze the opinions and perceptions of your employees, managers, and stakeholders.

A great business leader should be able to demonstrate employee safety is above business profits by setting the right example. Not only certified oneself with NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Health and Safety Leadership Excellence but also encourage other people in management to take on the qualifications so that the education can be cascaded down right to the junior level so that everyone benefits from it. When we empower employees with the right level of safety education, we empower business. A persistent and proactive approach is always advisable to keep everyone safe in the workplace and leaders go above and beyond for employees safety

Safety learning is the process of acquiring and applying new knowledge, skills, or attitudes that improve safety performance and outcomes. It also involves evaluating and reflecting on the impact and results of learning, and transferring and sharing learning with others.
