Lo principal durante un outage es identificar el tipo de problema o falla, inmediatamente a la identificación se debe asegurar el restore o levantamiento de los servicios críticos en la medida de lo posible con tareas tales como migración de links o cambio de ruta/camino de dichos servicios (depende mucho del punto de falla si es un punto de conexión de servicio o un passthrough). Durante las atenciones es importante contar con el personal que pueda acceder a sitio si es requerido y en paralelo se debe tratar de estimar en la medida de lo posible el tiempo de restauración, se debe tratar de documentar en la medida de lo posible los detalles de la situación desde el momento de la detección hasta su resolución, un RCA adecuado es importante.

Durante la fase de identificación del problema es importante determinar los tipos de servicios/clientes que se encuentren afectados, de igual forma se puede determinar el rango de la falla cuando se trate de regiones geográficas extensas, en ese punto es importante que el equipo de operaciones conozca muy bien la topología de la red asi como de los servicios que transitan. Cubriendo esos puntos se puede determinar con precisión cuales servicios o clientes están afectados para enfocar la atención a lo que realmente merece, durante un outage o falla masiva (crítica) los tiempos de respuesta son cruciales en los primeros minutos de identificación y aislamiento de componentes/elementos.
