You right on this one. i recently pitched an idea to the top 17 executives to include the CEO/Chief of Staff, and others. Knowing your audience is very critical. Practicing your presentation, and having a trustworthy mate to give it a listen, and maybe proofread is also very helpful. I had a family member, and two trusted co-workers go through it, critique slides, and give their honest opinions. Knowing who will be affected by your idea, costs, and materials needed to make you idea come to fruition are beneficial to getting accepted. You have to be willing and prepared respond to your biggest critics, and answer their questions. Best of Skill to you all!
