In photoshop there’s a feature called generate and it forces me to name my layers properly or at the very least get everything into well named folders. With generate you must give the layers you want to be cut out into graphics file names as their names, file extensions included. “Ovr_MyMenuGraphic.png” for example You can even create folder structures right inside the layer names inside photoshop too. “MainMenu/Overlays/Ovr_MyMenuGraphic.png” This would place the cut file in a folder called main menu and then in a subfolder called overlays too. I also use a small plugin that at the press of a button allows me to bulk rename layers in photoshop. Give it a google search and see how it changes your workflow forever

For example, you could group all the layers related to a character, a background, or a special effect in a folder or a sublayer.
