Once your filters have been ordered, you should test and verify their performance and functionality. Oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and network analyzers can all be used to measure the frequency response, phase response, impulse response, and distortion of your filters. An oscilloscope displays the waveform of the input and output signals of your filter and allows you to measure their amplitude, frequency, and phase. A spectrum analyzer displays the frequency spectrum of the input and output signals of your filter and allows you to measure their power, bandwidth, and noise. Signal generators generate various types of input signals for your filter such as sine waves, square waves, or white noise. Finally, a network analyzer measures the transfer function of your filter and allows you to measure its gain, phase, and group delay.
